‘We are in an absolute need for the other’
(Mikhail Bakhtin)
(Mikhail Bakhtin)
We need the other because we cannot
see ourselves. The photograph can only
describe the appearance but there is more
to humanness than what meets the eye;
we are not our images.
A more truthful mirror is another person for
by the shape we take around each other
we can see the state of our being.
And lest we would be left lonely with our
thoughts and unaided with our senses,
we speak to be heard and even though our
words fail us, we speak to be understood.
We are in need to be known.
