Photography is a riddle.
The lens sees like the human eye
and the camera records it like
the human mind. Although the elements
by which the image is recorded are
controlled, the photograph is being
traced as if by itself. Likewise, the human
eye sees when it does not look. The riddle
goes whether it sees what is already there or
if the mind guides the eye in what it sees;
whether what was in front of the lens
was found or merely fabricated by the human mind.As the photograph only fools the eye in
its likeness to what was seen and
because the mind cannot believe the eye,
the world remains unknown.
